A campaign trail of a Nyeri women representative aspirant was Tuesday disrupted following an attack by a swarm of bees as campaigners scampered for safety.

Three people were serious injured after the bees attacked the central regional headquarters in Nyeri, disrupting services.

The three men who were stung by the bees were treated at the Nyeri County Referral Hospital.

Nyeri Central Assistant County Commissioner John Marete confirmed the bee attack and said that the injured were responding well to treatment.

“Very many of us were stung but only three (cases) were serious but they have been treated and are stable,” said Mr Marete.

The bees are said to have been accidentally disturbed from their hives by National Youth Service (NYS) cohorts who were cleaning the compound.

The cohorts were consequently forced to abandon their work.

Services at the regional Huduma Centre and most of the regional offices were halted in the afternoon following the attack as staff and clients alike took to their heels to escape from the bees.

Motorists and pedestrians using the road next to the premises were also not spared by the hostile insects with many unable to escape their stinging wrath.

Mr Marete however noted that the situation was later contained and a permanent solution was being worked on.
