As many youngsters who passed last year’s KCPE exams are anticipating joining form one, two cousins are spending sleepless nights for lack of fees to further their studies.

Speaking to Nation.co.ke, Geofrey Kahoro, one of them, said he was orphaned when he was only five years old and since then, he has relied on well-wishers to assist him.

According to his uncle Mr George Ngure, after his mother’s death, the young boy has been living with an aunt who was working as a bar waitress.

“Currently, the aunt is suffering from HIV/AIDS and cannot work anymore nor can she be able to take care of this boy,” says Mr Ngure.

Mr Ngure says Kahoro was able to get his primary education from Nyeri Junior Academy after the school’s proprietor sponsored him.

Despite the financial constraints at home, 15 year old Kahoro managed to score 343 marks in his 2013 KCPE exams.

He dreams of becoming an engineer in future and help the community by making great inventions.

SEEKS SPONSOR

“I am hoping, really hoping that someone somewhere will be touched by my plight and sponsor me.

I promise to work hard and be enrolled to a university,” said Kahoro.

Kahoro’s cousin, Alpha Njeru also managed to score 375 marks in the 2013 KCPE exam and is hoping to get well-wishers to support him pursue secondary school education.

Njeru says his parents have financial problems and he had to stay at his uncle Ngure’s home due to the problems he was experiencing back at home.

“I have stayed with my uncle for five years now and he has catered for my school fees in primary school, but now I pity him too because he has other children in school and cannot be able to educate me since secondary education is more expensive,” said Njeru.

13 year old Njeru already has an admission letter to Othaya Boys High school.

But unlike his peers, he has not even embarked on buying things like school uniform and other essential requirements.

Njeru’s dream career is to become a pilot owing to his passion of visiting different parts of the world.

“I hate poverty; it has separated my family and I would not want my children to repeat the same cycle.

I am hopeful of pursuing my studies, but that will only be possible if a well-wisher sponsor me,” he said.
