Anger at burial of five family members killed in Salgaa crash

Leaders want the Nakuru-Eldoret highway redesigned into a duo carriage to reduce accidents at the Salgaa blackspot.

While attending the burial of five of seven family members killed last week in a road accident near Salgaa, MPs said the matter will be debated in parliament next week.

In an emotional send off, speakers pointed an accusing fingers at the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) for failing to address the rising number of accidents.

Thousands of mourners from Nyeri and Trans Nzoia counties gathered at Iruri Primary School grounds in Nyeri county for the final send off.

The family's relatives broke down and wept uncontrollably when the five hearses carrying the bodies of the victims arrived at the school grounds.

Mathira MP Peter Weru accused NTSA officials of slacking and taking bribes hence abetting road users who flaunt traffic rules.

"Fighting road carnage is a joint effort. Every blackspot in this country has an answer," he said.

Nakuru Woman Representative Mary Mbugua cautioned motorists against speeding and overtaking carelessly.

Family and friends wore black t-shirts emblazoned with "Its ot the goodbye that hurts but the flashbacks that follow".

The Father Charles Kibira, 64, was buried alongside his son Gerald Munyi, 37 ,and his daughter-in-law (sons' wife) Gladys Mukuhi, 27, and two grandchildren

Anna Wambui, 6 and Joe Maina ,2 at their home in Hombe Village.

The daughter Alice Muthoni and the son were buried on Thursday in Molo, Nakuru County where she is married.

The late Kibira was described as a hardworking man who was very cautious while driving.

They were buried in one grave.
