Four people, including a former soldier and a university student were Wednesday arrested for attempting to forge medical documents during the ongoing Kenya Defence Forces’ recruitment at Ruring’u Stadium in Nyeri Town.

The four, all family members, were nabbed by the military police with fake KDF Memorial Hospital rubber stamps and forged medical examination documents.

One of the suspects was said to be a former Kenya Navy officer.

The student, identified as Robert Maina, allegedly attempted to give out a Sh86,000 bribe.

The military police were acting on a tip-off that one of the hopeful recruits was intending to forge their way into the force.

According to the officer in charge of the exercise, Lt Col Mathews Lenamunai, the former soldier was trying to fraudulently get his nephew into the KDF.

FAKE MEDICAL REPORT

The recruit had already gone through all the processes including a five-kilometre run and was planning to use the fake medical reports to get into the force when the four were nabbed.

“We acted on a tip-off and after searching a vehicle belonging to an uncle of the recruit, we found the fake documents and rubber stamps,” said Lt Col Lenamunai.

Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) were called in and took away the four for further questioning.

EACC Central Regional Director, Jackson Mue, however, said that only the student would be charged due to lack of sufficient evidence against the other three.

“We questioned all suspects but for now we can only recommend the charging of one of the suspects,” said Mr Mue.

The EACC boss, however, said that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
