Kibaki Family in Othaya to identify Mama Lucy’s burial site

The family of former president Mwai Kibaki has arrived at his Othaya home to identify the grave site for the late Mama Lucy.

Mr Kibaki’s motorcade arrived a few minutes to 11am at the Kanyange home, where final preparations are going on.

He was met by the Nyeri County security and burial committees.

He arrived in a convoy of four vehicles and three security lead cars.

Other members of the family arrived a few minutes later and were set to identify the spot where the former first lady will laid to rest inside the compound.

A few family members from Mama Lucy’s side had gathered outside the home but were not allowed into the compound.

Only a select few family members and security officials were allowed into the compound.

A short prayer session was to be conducted once the burial site was picked.

The digging and preparation of the grave will then begin ahead of the Saturday burial.

The family is also expected to meet the local burial committee, which will brief them on the progress of the funeral preparations.

Both the national and local committees were expected to meet Thursday afternoon to finalise the funeral arrangements.

They were also expected to give an official statement on the preparations.
