An aspirant for the Othaya parliamentary seat yesterday asked a Nairobi court to stop the April 29 by-election.
Mr Peter Gichuki King’ara, who lodged a case that led to the nullification of former MP Mary Wambui’s win, said that he did not trust the people mandated to oversee the by-election.
He argued that the Court of Appeal, when nullifying Ms Wambui’s election, blamed IEBC officials for the malpractices witnessed in last year’s election.
STOP OFFICIALS
Mr King’ara, who is vying on a Democratic Party ticket, also named those implicated in the court of appeal judgment saying that they should leave Othaya politics for the Othaya people.
Mr King’ara also provided a list of over 200 officers serving in different capacities as IEBC officials who will oversee the by-election, urging the court to stop them from conducting the scheduled April 29 by-election.
“There is imminent threat of recurrence of the malpractices and electoral irregularities should the same personnel who tainted the March 4 elections be deployed to conduct, oversee or supervise the forthcoming by-elections,” Ms Caroline Kimere, representing Mr King’ara said.
The case continues.
