Three die after Moyale MP's car hits motorbike in Nyeri

Three people died Sunday night after Moyale MP Roba Duba's vehicle collided with a motorcycle in Kiganjo, Nyeri along the Nanyuki-Nairobi highway.

The three were on the motorcycle when it collided head on with the MP's vehicle which was headed towards Nairobi at around 9pm.

It is believed that the legislator’s Toyota Prado was speeding when his driver tried to overtake another vehicle.

Two pillion passengers on the motorcycle were killed on the spot while the rider was rushed to Tumutumu Mission Hospital with serious injuries.

He died later while receiving treatment.

A scuffle ensued as motorcycle riders attempted to burn the MP's vehicle and threatened to lynch the occupants.

Mr Roba was whisked away by his two bodyguards and his driver in another car leaving the damaged vehicle behind.

The motorcycle and the legislator's vehicle were towed to Nyeri Central Police Station.

Central Region Traffic Police Commander Jane Kuria confirmed the incident, saying that investigations are underway.

The police boss however noted that no arrests were made as the occupants of the MP’s car fled the scene.

“The occupants of the vehicle fled but they will come to record statements.

“What we gathered is that the Prado was trying to overtake but collided head on with the motorcycle,” said Ms Kuria.

MP Roba and his security detail escaped unhurt.
