Man who beat mother to death arrested in Nyeri

A 21-year-old man suspected of killing him mother on Wednesday in Mweiga, Nyeri County has been arrested.

Mr Peter Kairu, 21, was arrested on Thursday evening after the public informed the police that he had been spotted at Kangemi estate in Nyeri town.

The police rescued the suspect from a mob that wanted to lynch him.

According to Nyeri Central OCS Rafael Gaa, the suspect was reportedly looking for means to travel to Nairobi.

He is alleged to have killed his mother by hitting her on the head with a piece of wood after demanding for money given to her by well-wishers to rebuild their house which burned a week ago.

According to neighbours this was not the first time Mr Kairu attacked his mother. He had earlier stabbed her in the back.
