  • "We have not received any funding from any politician," says interim chairman.

The Nyeri Jubilee Alliance Party (JAP) interim office has denied claims that it is being funded by some political leaders.

The party’s interim chairman in Nyeri, Wambugu Nyamu, on Sunday said their vision is to have a united Nyeri and value-based politics of empowerment both in the county and the country as well as ensure all current and future politicians in Nyeri join one united party.

“Contrary to rumours circulating, we are self-funding and we have not received any funding from any politician, within or without Nyeri,” he said.

Mr Nyamu said they would jealously remain nonpartisan as they build the party and would continue to articulate Jubilee policies without fear or favour, and defend the rights of all Nyeri residents at all times.

QUESTIONING LEGITIMACY

A number of leaders are questioning the legitimacy of the interim office which is spearheading a recruitment drive in the county.

In spite of this, the interim office has vowed not to accept outsiders to come and dictate to them what to do, stating that their loyalty is to the President and his deputy who were instrumental in the formation of the party.

The chairman said when JAP was formed there was a lot of resistance in Central Kenya especially from elected leaders who were very sceptical and non-committal towards the new party.

“Now that this party is getting popular, some of these elected leaders are starting to complain that they didn’t elect any officials,” he said.

Interim secretary-general Nderitu Miitai said their branch interim office was created on November 5 last year by the founder secretariat of JAP.

“Whereas many branches created then became inactive, we have continuously popularised JAP and we work directly under the JAP secretariat, we can confidently say that Nyeri has received JAP whole heartedly,” he said.

Interim party co-ordinator Samson Kagiri said currently they have networked 11,600 interim officials from the polling stations in the county and they intend to recruit 260,000 members before August when mass recruitment starts.
