Members of the Party of National Unity (PNU) will decide during a delegates conference set for September whether the party will be dissolved to merge with the Jubilee Party.

A row within PNU has deepened after former official Nderitu Mureithi denied claims by party chairman John Kamama that the majority of members had agreed to its dissolution.

Mr Mureithi, who spoke to the Nation by the phone, insisted that delegates will decide on the future of the party on September 9, 2016 when the meeting will be held.

While Mr Kamama has been pushing for the party’s dissolution, PNU’s leadership is against the merger of 12 parties affiliated with Jubilee Party.

Meru Governor Peter Munya has indicated that he intends to seek re-election on a PNU ticket after the Alliance Party of Kenya (APK), led by Senator Kiraitu Murungi, and through which he was elected in 2013, resolved to dissolve and join the Jubilee Party.
