Police arrest two suspected poachers in Nyeri

Two suspected poachers were on Thursday night arrested by police at Kiawara trading centre along Nyeri-Nyahururu road.
According to Nyeri Central OCPD Kioko Muinde the suspects were found in possession of bloody crude weapons packed in a Rav-4 car following a tip off from members of the public.
Police recovered 11 knives, two axes and one panga (machete).
Mr Muinde said the weapons have been handed over to government analysts to investigate if the blood is from an animal or a human being.
The suspects are believed to be behind poaching of rhinos and elephants in the Aberdare and Mount Kenya forests.
The police boss said the suspects are from Embu and Murang’a Counties adding that they could be behind spate of armed robberies that have been happening in Nyeri and neighbouring towns.
“We are investigating the two in conjunction with our colleagues in Embu and Murang’a. They will be arraigned in court soon after investigations are complete,” said Mr Muide.
He also said that initial investigations have revealed the owner of the car, who is not among the two suspects.
“The car could have been stolen. We have discovered through Kenya Revenue Authority the real owner,” he said.
