Othaya MP Mary Wambui has defended Constituency Development Fund projects started by former president Mwai Kibaki, saying they are not white elephants.

Addressing residents at Chinga in Othaya at the weekend, Ms Wambui said none of the Kibaki CDF projects had stalled and that she would ensure they are completed.

Ms Wambui also told the residents that she is not afraid of any political opponent, and declared her interest in contesting the Othaya parliamentary seat for a second time.

“Some people have the impression that the CDF projects started during Mr Kibaki’s time have stalled. Those projects are not white elephants.

“I ensured some of them were completed. We are working on the remaining ones and I have confidence we shall complete them soon,” said Ms Wambui.

DAIRY PROJECT

Among the projects started by Mr Kibaki is the construction of the Sh13 million Chinga Dairy Cooperative building, which is almost complete.

Dairy farmers have already started selling their milk at the facility.

The construction of a Sh15 million administration block at Muirugi Secondary School and multimillion-shilling projects at Kariko Secondary School are yet to be completed.

The construction of Mahiga, Karima and Iria-ini social halls is also under way.

The projects were started soon after Mr Kibaki became president and introduced the CDF in 2003.

COMPLETE ALL PROJECTS

Ms Wambui said that during her tenure, she has been working with the Othaya CDF office and has been leading efforts to complete all the projects.

“I shall not start new projects before the old ones are complete. Our people must benefit from the projects that are going on,” said Ms Wambui.

She asked residents to take advantage of CDF bursaries that are readily available for needy students to ensure they have access to quality education.

The MP spoke during the burial of Emmanuel Karanja Mwangi, Mr Kibaki’s long-time friend.
