Man killed, another injured in renewed cattle raids in Baragoi

Tension is high in Baragoi, Samburu North after a Wednesday evening cattle rustling incidence pitting two warring communities.

A 25-year-old man from the Turkana community was shot dead as he was grazing his family's livestock within Baragoi Town while 135 goats were stolen.

In what is believed to be a retaliation attack, another man from the Samburu community was shot by armed bandits believed to have come from the Turkana community, a few hours after the first incident.

He is nursing bullet wounds.

The victim, John Leola, was shot in the leg fracturing his bones.

He is receiving treatment at the Samburu County Referral Hospital in Maralal Town.

At least 30 of his cattle were taken away by the attackers.

Security officials visited the area to calm down the situation in efforts to prevent further revenge attacks.

The team was led by Samburu County Commissioner Mohammed Birik and County Police Commander Alfred Ageng'o.

The officials are held a closed-door meeting in Baragoi Town before meeting elders from both sides.
