Two senior Samburu County officials have been charged with abuse of office.

Stephen Letinina and Peter Leshakwet appeared before Maralal Court Principal Magistrate Richard Korir on Friday.

The officials were charged with using their office to confer benefit in favour of Africanity Company, a firm that was single sourced to run Maralal Samburu Lodge.

According to the prosecutor in the case that was brought before court by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, the contract was awarded without following the set procurement regulations.

They are accused of committing the offence on November 2014.

The two pleaded not guilty to the charges and were given a bond option of Sh300,000 each with an alternative of Sh100,000 cash bail.
