Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives have arrested a court prosecutor in Taveta for allegedly soliciting for a bribe in order to influence the outcome of a case.

Donald Omondi was arrested at the Taveta Law Courts premises on Thursday after he received Sh30,000 cheque .

The accused was charged with selling unlicensed liquor which was ferried from Tanzania. Mr Omondi allegedly demanded a Sh40 000 bribe to be divided between him and the magistrate who was to handle the case.

The prosecutor had promised to slash the fine to Sh20 000 if the accused agreed to pay the said amount.

“After negotiations they settled on a Sh30,000 bribe which was recovered from him at the time of his arrest,” said a source which requested to be anonymous.
