Nurses in Tharaka-Nithi have said they will go on strike starting Tuesday if their delayed August salaries are not paid.

In a press release issued Monday, Kenya National Union of Nurses (Knun) branch chairman Fabian Marigu, accused the county government of failing to pay nurses on time.

An agreement signed in June 2015 between the county and the union says payment must be done by the 30th of every month.

“As the only way to remind our employer that a month has ended, we will down our tools of work tomorrow (Tuesday) and we will resume duty when everyone is paid,” said Mr Marigu.

He also complained of late remittance of deductions to various saccos, unions, NHIF and delayed promotions.

In August, the nurses went on strike for one week, paralysing services in all public hospitals.

Following the latest strike threat, county officials could not be reached for comment.
