Parents of Kianamuthi Primary School in Tharaka-Nithi County on Wednesday morning held demonstrations to reject a newly posted headteacher.

The parents closed the office of headteacher Peter Mutegi, who was posted there from Ubarini Primary School, accusing him of poor performance and misappropriating money at his former station.

James Mutugi, a parent, said they would not accept a school head who had been rejected by another school because of poor administration.

“We don’t want him to interfere with the progress of our school as he did at the former station,” said Mr Mutugi.

Tunyai Zone education officer Alex Kanampiu dismissed claims that Mr Mutugi had been transferred on the grounds of poor performance and misappropriation of funds.

“This is a normal transfer and not because the teacher had failed in his former station,” said Mr Kanampiu.

He called on the parents to allow the new headteacher to take up his duties at the school and cooperate with him.

But the parents threatened to withdraw their children from the school if their demands are not addressed.
