Chuka court jails for 40 years man who killed woman in a bar

A court in Chuka, Tharaka-Nithi County, has sentenced a man to 40 years in prison for killing a woman in a bar fight.

Abdul Aziz,5 2, a carpenter from Rukindu Village in Tharaka-Nithi County was found guilty of killing Josephine Nkirote Mworia, a bar attendant in Moi Girls slums in Chuka Town on September 3, 2012.

The accused candidly narrated to the court how he bought a kitchen knife for Sh40 after the deceased accused him of stealing beer.

Mr Aziz told Judge Alfred Mabeya that he was not remorseful because the deceased had provoked him.

“I could not have killed her if she never accused me.

“It was out of anger that I rushed out and bought the knife that I killed her with,” he said.

PLEADS FOR LENIENCY

He pleaded with the judge to be lenient in his judgment noting he is the sole bread winner of his family.

“I urge the court to forgive me because we parted ways with my wife and I live with my two children whom I feed with the little money that I get from my carpentry work,” he pleaded.

While delivering the judgment, the judge noted that the accused was not remorseful of the criminal act and turned down his plea for forgiveness.

“I have considered the mitigation of the accused and have also taken into account that the he is a first offender, but noting that life was lost in the hands of the accused, I sentence him to 40 years imprisonment,” said Judge Mabeya.

The deceased hailed from Ncaure Village in Imenti North Sub County.
