Two people died and six others were injured in a road crash at Sirende, on the Kitale-Eldoret road, Wednesday morning.

The driver of an Eldoret-bound 14-seater matatu belonging to Kangaroo Shuttle collided head-on with a lorry as the driver was overtaking a tuk-tuk at 11am.

“A female passenger died on the spot while one male passenger was pronounced dead on arrival at Kitale District Hospital. Six other passengers were injured,” said Trans Nzoia West police boss Jackson Mwenga.

Kitale County Referral Hospital Chief Nursing Officer Veronica Raiwi Onuko confirmed that the crash victims were taken to the hospital.

“We received seven patients, one arrived dead, three in critical condition, two were treated and discharged and one is being observed in the outpatient section,” Ms Onuko said.

The driver of the matatu is among those who survived the crash.
