What you need to know:

  • On Jamhuri Day celebrations, three MPs, rivals to the Governor, failed to attend the celebrations.
  • Early this year Mr Abdihafid withdrew his support for the incumbent governor.
  • But during the event, they seemed to agree, for the first time in a long time.

Wajir County political foes who have not seen each other eye-to-eye for about a year seem to have buried the hatchet after they were on Wednesday spotted chatting in public.

Eldas MP Adan Keynan, Wajir governor Ahmed Abdullahi and Wajir deputy governor Abdihafid Yarrow even took a 'selfie' photo together and engaged in a brief discussion during a peace forum in Wajir town.

Their rivalry was witnessed late last year when Mr Keynan walked out on Mr Abdullahi during Mashujaa Day celebrations.

On Jamhuri Day celebrations, three MPs, rivals to Mr Abdullahi, failed to attend the celebrations. His deputy too, did not attend the annual event.

Early this year, Mr Abdihafid announced that he had withdrawn his support for the incumbent, accusing him of failing to involve him in county matters.

Also present was Tarbaj Member of Parliament Mohammed Elmi, who recently withdrew his candidature for any elective post.

Unlike past events where the leaders have had a lot of arguments, they seemed to agree, for the first time in a long time.

They all called on other aspirants and residents to preach peace and agreed to carry out a peaceful campaigns.
