Unite ahead of elections, Moroto tells Ruto, Gideon Moi

Kapenguria MP Samuel Moroto has called for a truce between Deputy President William Ruto and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi in the battle for supremacy in the North Rift.

The legislator has said leaders in the region need to unite ahead of the August elections.

“It is important that the two respect each other. We also want those leaders from this region inciting the two leaders to stop causing disharmony,” he said.

Mr Moroto, who was elected on a Kanu ticket in 2013, also said he was saddened by comments on former President Daniel arap Moi by National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale regardingover the failed 1982 military coup.

“I am unhappy with Duale’s comments, unless he is sick. He should never utter such words again,” said the legislator, who recently warmed up to the Jubilee Party.

During the burial of former nominated MP Mark Too, Mr Duale claimed that former Chief of General Staff Mohamud Mohamed rescued the former president from the bush during the attempted coup.

Speaking at the burial, Mr Duale called on senator Moi to support Mr Ruto's bid for the presidency in 2022.

“Sisi kama jamii ya wafugaji tulimbeba baba yako kwa mgongo kwa miaka mingi (We as the pastoralists supported your father’s presidency for many years). It's now your turn to support Mr Ruto's bid,” said Mr Duale.

Duale accused the Baringo senator of sowing seeds of discord among members of the Kalenjin community.
