Fake news in Busia

11.36am

Residents of Busia wake up to leaflets showing that Dr Paul Otuoma, who is battling it out with Governor Sospeter Ojaamong for ODM ticket, had defected to Jubilee.

The leaflets comprised of a fake Jubilee poster of Dr Otuoma and a fake copy of the Daily Nation with the headline "Otuoma Defects To Jubilee party".

Dr Otuoma termed the fake news as a creation of his detractors who are hell-bent on bringing him down.

Butula Police Boss Stephen Wambua said they have launched investigations into the matter promising to apprehend the culprits behind the fake news.

ODM nominations kick off

7.23am

It is a do or die political contest as ODM primaries kicks off today with fierce competition for gubernatorial seats in at least eight counties.

The nominations begin in Busia County where incumbent Governor Sospeter Ojaamong is battling it out with Funyula MP Paul Otuoma.

ODM elections officials arrived early at Busia Police Station to dispatch materials to various polling stations.

Police officers are also present to provide security and ensure there is peace during the nominations.

Campaigns in Busia have been marred with violence as Mr Ojaamong and Mr Otuoma fight it out in a race focused on the governor’s performance for the last four years.

Busia, Kisumu, Nairobi, Homa Bay, Siaya and Migori are marked political hotspots in these nominations, especially in areas perceived to be ODM zones.

Already, the party has given direct nominations 16 people according to the list presented to IEBC after other aspirants failed to show up to challenge them in the nominations.
