No parallel results tallying

IEBC has warned Nasa over its plan to set up a parallel tallying centre for the August election results.

The commission has said it is the only authority mandated by the law to manage elections in the country.

β€œFor the avoidance of doubt it is only the commission that is allowed under the law to count, tally, collate, announce and declare the results of an election.” – IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati.

ODM leader Raila Odinga had on Sunday said Nasa will tally and announce its own results after the August 8 general election.

Mr Chebukati says commission will reject plans by any party to establish a parallel tallying centre.

IEBC to test EVIDs

IEBC will test its electronic voter identification devices (EVIDs) two months to the August elections.

Chairman Wafula Chebukati says this will involve a mock election where presumed data of voters will be keyed in to test their functioning.

First batch of EVIDs will arrive on April 9 while the entire batch will be fully in place by May 12.

Activist challenges electoral law

A human rights activist has filed a case at the High Court in Kerugoya challenging an electoral law that bars anyone without a university degree from contesting for the presidency.

Mr Ngacha Karani has filed an application in court seeking to have the law be declared null and void.
