David Makali joins Mudavadi’s Amani

Former Labour Party of Kenya Secretary-General David Makali has today joined the Amani National Congress (ANC).

Mr Makali was received at the ANC headquarters in Lavington by top party officials who included head of Mr Musalia Mudavadi's presidential campaign secretariat, Mr Godfrey Kanoti.

He enrolled as a life member of the party and immediately paid up nomination fees.

He will be vying for the Bungoma senate seat.

Nasa chiefs in closed-door meeting

Nasa principals are currently in closed-door meeting in Karen ahead of a joint-rally at Masinde Muliro grounds in Mathare, Nairobi.

Mombasa Jubilee elections board picked

Jubilee members in Mombasa County have picked their elections board in a peacefully exercise held at Wesley Methodist Church Hall.

However, some party officials boycotted the elections.

The party’s elections commissioner Samwel Nyangeso presided over the event.

Education ministry to clear contestants

Education ministry will clear politicians vying for elective seats before IEBC allows them to contest in the August elections.

IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati says they will rely on the ministry to determine if academic papers presented by aspirants are genuine.

“As a commission we need other agencies to certify qualifications of candidates.” – Wafula Chebukati

Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Mataing’i has said the ministry also scrutinise credibility of academic papers from institutions outside Kenya.

Jubilee team tours Naivasha

President Uhuru Kenyatta will today take Jubilee campaigns to Nakuru as the hunt for votes goes a notch higher ahead of the August elections.

President Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto will be in Naivasha where they are scheduled to meet Jubilee Party aspirants before holding a rally in the town.

The town was worst hit by the 2007/08 post-election violence, a subject the President re-ignited on Wednesday when he accused Nasa co-principal Raila Odinga of playing a central role in the chaos.

Nasa rally in Nairobi

The opposition Nasa (National Super Alliance) will today be in Nairobi as the coalition intensifies hunt for votes in the City County.

For the Nasa team, it will be a significant show of unity coming at a time when each of the principals and their lieutenants have furiously laid claim to the joint ticket, in a case that is almost one of “my way, or the highway.”

Nasa co-principals will lead their brigade in the much-awaited rally expected to assure their supporters that Nasa is united.

“The rally is crucial and the public expects to be assured that the Nasa team is united and that they will move together in all the rallies.” – Mutula Kilonzo Junior, Makueni Senator.

Yesterday, the team said that a “major announcement’ will be made in today’s rally.
