The government has authorised the release of Sh3.5 billion to implement the new Constitution for the next eight months.

A cabinet meeting chaired by President Kibaki Thursday approved a supplementary budget estimate of the amount to go towards the implementation of the various laws and commissions to be created in line with the new law.

“Meeting under the Chairmanship of President Mwai Kibaki at State House Nairobi, the Cabinet noted that the funds were required to allow smooth implementation of the new constitutional order,” a bulletin from the Presidential Press Service (PPS) stated.

The meeting also approved two bills intended to modernize the laws relating to partnerships.

The two bills which will now go to parliament for debate and enactment are partnership bill 2010 and the Limited Liability Bill 2010.

The meeting further approved the establishment of the Africa Media Initiative in Kenya.

“The Initiative will serve as a point of contact for international bodies and investors interested in African media,” the PPS statement said.

It will also serve as a focal point of relations between various Africa media stakeholders and other external partners.
