Love turns sour as AP kills lover and self

A love affair turned tragic on Saturday night after an Administration Police officer shot his girlfriend dead before taking his own life.

The AP officer, deployed as a sentry guard at the home of the Muhoroni district commissioner, was in a relationship with a female colleague who was attached to the Munara district officer’s office.

On the fateful night, the man had left his work and headed to where his lover was posted on duty.

“He found the lady having a conversation with her colleagues and called her aside where they had a lengthy argument before gunshots were heard,” Muhoroni district commissioner Fred Ouma explained on Sunday.

The man shot her girlfriend on the chest before shooting himself in the head. They both died on the spot and their bodies transferred to the Nyanza Provincial hospital mortuary.

Police have not yet released the names of the deceased since their respective next of kins had not been notified of their deaths.

Mr Ouma stated that the two had been in a rocky relationship for a while, but it is still unclear what had caused the man to take such extreme measures on this occasion.

Cases of Administration Police officers using their official firearms to settle scores have recently been on the rise. In November last year Constable Peter Karanja drenched Siakago town in tears and blood as he went on a killing spree after allegedly being jilted by his lover Florence Marigu.
