Kasarani MP John Njoroge has been arrested by anti-corruption commission detectives for allegedly demanding a Sh150,000 bribe.

The detectives had on Tuesday been tipped by a contractor that the first time legislator had demand the bribe to authorise payment of Sh3.3 million from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

The contractor had put up a tuition block at Baba Dogo Road Secondary School in the constituency.

According to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission Chief Executive Halakhe Waqo, a trap was set up and the MP was arrested in a ‘sting’ operation after he had already received Sh100, 000.

He was later driven to the EACC headquarters at Integrity Centre where he was questioned for more five hours.

“Since the matter is still under investigations, we may not wish to divulge more information at this stage,” said Mr Waqo at a news conference.

Mr Njoroge, a former  Nairobi Deputy mayor,  is set to be charged at the Anti-Corruption Court Thursday.
