Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi has moved to court seeking to have National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi cited for contempt for not allowing him back to Parliament.

He claims Mr Muturi has refused to allow him into Parliament precincts and has therefore been left with no option but to institute contempt proceedings against him.

Through lawyer Antonny Olouch, he says the Speaker risks being committed to civil jail for at least six months for refusing to comply with a court order that suspended his directive.

He has sued Mr Muturi, the National Assembly and the Attorney-General.

High Court Judge George Odunga had on July 5 ruled that the Speaker's directive be suspended since Mr Wandayi's constituents are also affected by his expulsion.
