Maggie Ireri unveils online youth mentorship program

The outgoing Ipsos Synovate Managing Director, Maggie Ireri. She has unveiled the Mentor to Leader (MTL), an online mentorship program aimed at sharing her experiences with young leaders.

Maggie Ireri, the outgoing MD of research firm Ipsos Synovate, has unveiled the Mentor to Leader (MTL), an online mentorship program aimed at sharing her experiences with young leaders.
The program that seeks to develop the next generation of leaders for Kenya was launched on Saturday at The University of Nairobi.

In launching the program, Ms Ireri hopes to give back to the community in sharing her life lessons with the youth who have a shortage of mentors.
"There are millions of talented youth but majority of them lack access to trusted advisors who can guide them in making the decisions that will propel their careers," she said.

The online program that targets youth between the age of 18 and 30, will help them save on the expense of hiring professional mentors by equipping them with transformative career and leadership capabilities.

"When I took over as MD in 2011, I paid for a professional career mentor for the very first time. Although the books helped a great deal, I found the value of this mentor immeasurable when it came to learning through real life experiences and constructive dialogue."

AFTER GRADUATION

Other speakers at the event gave talks on volunteering and entrepreneurship as alternative employments after graduation.

The speakers included : Kweya Gerry, chairman of Red Cross, Nairobi. Branch; Dr Ernest Muriithi, founder and CEO of Miuki Clinics and Wariko Waita, a director at Red Cross. Mentorship will be done through an online blog and interactive live chats once a month.

Anyone can log in and ask for advise from mentors and the responses to these questions are published on the blog.

MTL will also publish videos with career advise customized to the Kenyan environment with tips on how to navigate and get ahead in Kenya's corporate world.

Maggie who leaves Ipsos at the end of September will be joining South Africa's Trans Africa Media, a sports marketing outfit as the MD for East Africa.
