Four Kenyan sisters are expected to make history tonight for being the first non-Americans to sing the American anthem before a basketball match in Texas.

The Moipei Quartet is lined up to sing the anthem before San Antonio Spurs face Los Angeles Clippers in a basketball match in the race for the title of America’s western conference champions.

The match will start at 11.30pm Kenyan time.

The quartet consists of triplets, Mary, Magdalene and Marta and their younger sister Seraphine. On Saturday, they wrote on their Facebook page that being slotted to sing will be a dream-come-true.

“On Sunday, one of our biggest dreams will come true. We will be singing the American anthem for the San Antonio Spurs vs LA Clippers 4th playoff game,” they wrote. They added: “Truly, ‘No matter where you come from, your dreams are valid.’ To God be the glory.”

Their self-written profile says that in June 2006 they were appointed the first-ever Unicef child ambassadors in Kenya. It adds that in 2007, they received the Head of State Commendation Award by President Mwai Kibaki.
