  • Garden City Mall was completed in May last year, and is currently  the biggest mall in Kenya. The Sh2.3 billion project, which also included a residential area, was the first phase of the Garden City project that is backed by British private equity firm Actis.

The developers of the Garden City Mall have began plans to establish a business park alongside the shopping centre.

The Garden City Business Park (GCBP) will sit on 23.5 acres along Thika Road and will include facilities like business hotels, offices and a hospital.

The owners of the property have proposed to divide the land into 10 plots. They will develop offices on two of them and lease out the rest for predetermined use.

“The GCBP will offer a vast range of dining, leisure and hospitality options and  offer excellent value to the office community,” regulatory filings with the National Environment Management Authority (Nema) say.

The developer plans to service the sub-plots with infrastructure such as access roads, power, water, sewers, and storm water drainage.

The developer will also define the land use for each sub-plot and seek the relevant approvals. A four-star and a three-star hotel, a car show room, residential development and a hospital will  be put up on some of the plots.

“The subdivided plots will be used for business, medical, hotel and residential purposes,” the document says.

The developer will build four office blocks on the two sub-plots, each of which will be a four-storey building with two basement levels.

The construction of the office blocks is expected to cost Sh2.7 billion.

Garden City Mall was completed in May last year, and is currently  the biggest mall in Kenya. The Sh2.3 billion project, which also included a residential area, was the first phase of the Garden City project that is backed by British private equity firm Actis.

The business park will be the second phase. The mall and the business park are located in Ruaraka.

The Nema report did not indicate when the construction of the office blocks would begin or how long it would take.
