Bottles of wine have been recalled by Asda, a British supermarket chain, after they began exploding in customer's faces.

The supermarket has warned customers to return their yellow label Prosecco Spumante Extra Dry following reports of them bursting, showering drinkers with shards of glass and cork.

The store said: "It's a small percentage of bottles that are affected but at this stage we don't know what has caused the problem.

"As a precaution Asda is recalling one particular batch due to a small number of bottles shattering."
