CARACAS,

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro says a "little bird" has appeared to him once again to assure him that his late predecessor, Hugo Chavez, is "happy and full of love."

Maduro made the assertion Monday during a ceremony to mark what would have been Chavez's 60th birthday in his hometown of Sabaneta. Chavez died March 5, 2013.

"I am going to confess once again that a little bird approached me and said... that Comandante Chavez was happy and full of love for the loyalty of his people," Maduro said.

During last year's presidential election campaign, Maduro drew a torrent of mockery when he said that Chavez had appeared to him after his death in the form of a "little bird."
