What you need to know:

  • “I created this platform so artistes could sell themselves but they have made it about votes. Win or lose, artists should maximize use of this platform to grow themselves.

  • This nationwide tour is a great opportunity for them to connect with their fans, get new ones and grab media attention.

  • The  Groove Camp workshops have tried to educate them, but I see more needs to be done.”

Well over 50,000 elated fans packed the Machakos People’s Park on Sunday, May 24, as the Groove Tour made its final stop.

The People’s Park is fast making Machakos the party capital of Kenya. The fans came all dressed up and ready to party and headed straight  to the far right corner where Groove had pitched camp.

The five-week tour has been to Kakamega, Eldoret, Nakuru and Karatina. As focus now turns to the Groove gala night, the tours have proved that showbiz remains  under-used  by county governments. It is also about time the artistes, promoters, and gig organisers  held shows outside Nairobi. But as the tour draws to a close, he organizers expressed their disappointment,

In an exclusive interview with ZuQka,  Mosound CEO Kev Muley said:

“I created this platform so artistes could sell themselves but they have made it about votes. Win or lose, artists should maximize use of this platform to grow themselves.

This nationwide tour is a great opportunity for them to connect with their fans, get new ones and grab media attention.

GREAT OPPORTUNITY

The  Groove Camp workshops have tried to educate them, but I see more needs to be done.”

The discerning Machakos crowd was demanding and  artistes had to work a little extra hard.

The curtain raisers had a hard time getting any reaction from the crowd but some of the experienced performers finally broke the ice.

Throwing in a little Kao (Kikamba) seemed to work for the likes of Mercy Masika, Simbo Wade, Dafari and Chipukizi. If there were a prize for best performance, it would definitely have gone to Kriss Ehh baba and his official dance crew, Jimz and Dimz. They hit the stage with unmatched energy and kept throwing in little tricks that left the crowd dumbfounded.

New kid Ivlyn brought on her A game; you’ve seen her on Hopekid’s Delilah but she is definitely a raga power house. I’d put her right up there with the likes of Alaine and Ce’cile.

As usual, Bahati brought the house down; he was welcomed on stage with deafening screams. His entire set was punctuated by periodic roars from a crowd that followed his every move. After his performance, he could not even leave the stadium as throngs crowded his car to get a piece of their superstar.
