Dear Mr President, just Develop the areas you have strong support

The public toilet that was burnt by riotous youths on June 22, 2015. I still do not get how burning down these projects can be bad for anyone except the people who use them. But seeing as those are my taxes going up in smoke, I’d like to question why the government chose to go there in the first place. PHOTO | FILE

What you need to know:

  • You reward those who vote for you. Pure and simple. Obama does the same when he speaks out about gay marriages and innocuous things like Bruce Jenner turning into a woman. He has to – Liberals are his core supporters.
  • So I find it interesting that this government decided to go into Kibera, an opposition stronghold and bring development. There are other slums after all that are just as needy; Korogocho, Kawangware, Maathare… So why choose Kibera?
  • They did a good job with street lighting, clinics and toilets. The President even went for a concert there with limited security and mingled with the residents. Good for him. He truly must have thought himself a national leader. So I imagine that this week he must be surprised that they are burning down those same development projects ostensibly to protest against Waiguru.

George W Bush won two elections that left everyone dumbfounded. How was this possible?

How could the so-called “greatest country in the world” vote for a buffoon as the leader of the free world? He would pepper his speeches with idiotic and maniacal utterances. In 2001 he said, “We spent a lot of time talking about Africa as we should. Africa is a nation that suffers from incredible disease.”

In 2001 he asked Brazilian President Fernando Cardoso: “Do you have blacks too?”

“Amigo! Amigo!” he called out to the Italian Prime Minister at the G-8 summit. Oh, what the hell, it’s fine, Italian, Spanish, all the same language, right?

A buffoon he was but he held on to power. Just how did he do it? By continuously helping his core supporters and making no apologies for it. You reward those who vote for you. Pure and simple.

OPPOSITION STRONGHOLD

Obama does the same when he speaks out about gay marriages and innocuous things like Bruce Jenner turning into a woman. He has to – Liberals are his core supporters.

So I find it interesting that this government decided to go into Kibera, an opposition stronghold and bring development. There are other slums after all that are just as needy; Korogocho, Kawangware, Maathare… So why choose Kibera?

They did a good job with street lighting, clinics and toilets. The President even went for a concert there with limited security and mingled with the residents. Good for him. He truly must have thought himself a national leader. So I imagine that this week he must be surprised that they are burning down those same development projects ostensibly to protest against Waiguru.

I still do not get how burning down these projects can be bad for anyone except the people who use them. But seeing as those are my taxes going up in smoke, I’d like to question why the government chose to go there in the first place.

Does Obama speak for big business and give them tax breaks every chance he gets? No. Did George Bush speak up for gays? No. So before going to Kibera, ask yourself, what are your motivations?

I get the general principle. These other slums are filled with your core supporters, so who cares, they will vote for you regardless.

Kibera is filled with die-hard opposition guys and surely you do not think these projects will change their minds about you, do you?

PECULIAR KENYANS

So I assume the reasoning is going after the swing voters who will see all this as some sort of benevolence on your part.

I personally think it doesn’t make sense. Swing voters after all can connect the wrong dots – That you do not have to vote for someone to get him to develop your area.

So remind me again why you are doing this? Michael Joseph called Kenyans “peculiar”, perhaps we really are. In Kilome, voters rejected Mwau after he brought them electricity. Electricity! Come on! Rarieda rejected Tuju en masse and he was the king of development.

Machakos love Mutua now, the best performing governor in the country but I’ll bet you they’d never vote for him if he ran on a Jubilee ticket. Peculiar. It is what it is. Accept it.

The current government going to Kibera and ignoring other slums is the equivalent of a man you marry. He keeps you at home and gives you the basics but spends his entire salary on the girl he is chasing. She will take your cash and dump you the first minute she gets. Moral? Do what Obama does and what Bush did before him - Spend it on your wife.
