Bahati ditches Groove tour to thank his fans

Popular gospel musician Bahati has today chosen not to join other gospel musicians in the Groove tour concert in Eldoret. He instead has his own concert to thank his fans from Mathare, where he grew up.

Bahati will be performing live at Redeemed Gospel Church, Huruma, from 1pm. “I’m doing this concert just to thank the people I grew up with and show them that they are much appreciated,” he said.

This is the first time he is performing in the sprawling Mathare slums.

Bahati was last year’s Male Artiste of the Year at the Groove awards. However, he has been mired in controversy in the recent past, where he has accused fellow singer Will Paul of “stealing” two of his songs.

Although he has declined to comment about it, close sources to him say he was forced to make up with Willy Paul at the Groove awards nominees party last week. “The organisers ambushed him the same day while he was leaving Radio Citizen, where he had gone for an interview,” said the source.
