The rags-to-riches tale of the “Githeri Man” continues. In just one week, Martin Kamotho has moved from just another Nairobi County worker to a celebrity with more than 10,000 Instagram followers and a few endorsements.

Companies are now lining up to work with him and benefit from all the publicity he has accrued. The response has been so apparently been so overwhelming that he now has a team to help him manage this new business side of his life.

He now has a  team that includes a manager, a lawyer. Veteran showbiz promoter Chris Kirwa is acting as his de facto talent agent. Some of the corporates that have already jumped onto the “Githeri Man” bandwagon include: Bonfire Adventures, UserName, Big Square Kenya, designer NaneuLeshan, Safaricom and Maisha Flour Meals.

He says; “I thank God for all who have supported me and all those who are still coming out to support me. I still don’t understand what all this celebrity thing is all about, but my life has truly changed.”

This new found fame has come with its fair share of potential pitfalls. His close family members led by his uncle, are also closely monitoring all his dealings to make sure that people don’t take advantage of him.

“All the cheques are written in his name and they are all going to his personal account. I have made a career out of giving people a platform to achieve their dreams; it’s what gets me out of bed every morning,” Kirwa adds.
