Rapper Gabu is looking for a song writer. Not for himself though. The No Spine musician is looking for a song writer to help out his young artistes who might soon be joining his label Compact Records.

“I found one but she is in the States and unfortunately can’t write Swahili. I just opened a studio about three weeks ago,” he says. “People want different kinds of music so I want to partner with someone who has the same vision. I want to nurture young talent.”

Although he writes his own songs, Gabu told Showbuzz he is not above using a songwriter should he find an exceptional one.

“I write my own songs but if I get someone brilliant to write my songs, that would be amazing because it would mean less work for me, I would just show up at the studio and record,” he said adding that local musicians should not shy away from enlisting the help of songwriters from time to time.

“There’s no shame in letting someone write you a song, Babyface has written for so many American superstars, and Beyoncé and Rihanna have songwriters. People should stop being proud, use songwriters and keep in mind they need to be paid, same with producers so the industry can grow. Nigerians and Tanzanians are outshining us because they are coming here and paying deejays to play their well written their songs,” he says.

Gabu also revealed that the up coming artistes keen on joining the label are still going through contracts.

“I’m looking for anybody who has mastered his own style, is diverse and willing to grow and work together, not someone whose sole focus is on money,” he said of the songwriter he is looking for.
