Sarakasi use slum youth to spread peace

After the post-elections violence in 2008, Sarakasi Trust has been mobilising youth in the slums to maintain peace though their ‘Amani Lazima’ initiative. After the post-elections violence in 2008, Sarakasi Trust has been mobilising youth in the slums to maintain peace though their ‘Amani Lazima’ initiative. Many youths from Korogocho, Mathare, Kangemi, Kibera and other slums have been actively involved in the campaigns against violence through music, dance and acrobatics.

The youths have been involved in different events in the past two years, giving them experiences in performing arts.

Most of them have been absorbed by established groups like Sarakasi Dancers, who have appeared in different music videos and concerts across the country.
