Award-winning boy band Sauti Sol has come out to declare that royalties earned from their songs and collected by the Music Copyright Society of Kenya will serve as their retirement fund. But for now, the four-member group intends to rely on earnings from their performances.

“We are fighting for our retirement money now. The first cheque we got was for Sh2,800 for the songs Lazizi, Soma Soma and Blue Uniform. Elani are lucky they got what they did,” they quip, adding, “the artistes fighting for this money are not in the

limelight. Artistes from River Road are always on the forefront, and we should learn from them. You never see most of these uptown artistes marching in protest; they just sit and wait for MCSK to be perfect.”

The band advises that when it is time, artistes should show up with enough zeal and vote in a new MCSK team, adding that change will come with time.
