Say what you may about artiste Akothee’s musical talent, or lack thereof, but the "Sweet Love" singer is making quite some impressive moves in the industry. First, it was the collaboration with Diamond then "Give it to Me" which featured Flavour from Nigeria. She then won bragging rights at the 2016 AFRIMMA Awards for bagging Best Female Artiste in East Africa.

Now, Akothee’s soon to be released new jam called "Benefactor", which was produced by South Africa’s top producer and deejay, Maphorisa, is about to hit the airwaves. Showbuzz got a sneak peek of some of the behind the scenes photos of the project.

It is no surprise that the song’s story-line is about a “sponsor”, and Akothee takes time to school people on her view of the subject.

“…it’s upon you to grab any opportunity that comes along your way to change your lifestyle. We have married women who decide to be housewives and do nothing for their own good, hence become too dependent. When a woman is successful everyone has their own translation of her success and that comes with the fact that she has a man funding her,” she says.

But whatever your opinion of her success, Akothee does not really care.

“…Who do you call your benefactor? Sponsor, blesser or sugar daddy; the world is cruel and no one cares how you pay your bills. There is nothing like a sponsor, it’s just but another name of hustling wisely,” she said.
