Salon too crowded for a visit just before Christmas? Try styling it to last through the holiday season instead.

The week running up to Christmas is often very busy for salons. Immediately after Christmas and up until the first week of January, many salons close so it is imperative to organise your hair this week.

On Christmas Eve, there will be a mad rush for hair and beauty services. If you wish to leave the salon early enough to do other things, it is best to start earlier than 8am.

If you get there any later than that, you may find your chosen salon too packed for you to have any work done early and be out of there on time.

Perm rod set

This works best on light, natural hair and relaxed hair, both medium length and long. It uses light styling gel and thin perm rods to create tight, long lasting curls.

According to Nelsson, a hair stylist at Hair Attitudes Salon, this style is a winner because all it needs is adequate protection from water, cream oil depending on hair texture, a silk sleeping cap and sheen spray.

It is easy to perk up in the morning with a three-way styling comb.

Colour for short, natural hair

Colouring your hair is one way to make it look styled without actually doing much else. A good brand will give excellent results. Colouring natural hair actually helps to accentuate the curls when activated.

A fashion tint such as burgundy suits every skin tone and will liven up any hair for the holiday.

Use light gel or a good leave-in to keep it moist and curly. To keep the colour in, shampoo with colour protecting shampoo.

Hair attachments

These are always the ultimate, handy stand-by for medium to long hair, whether natural or not. Select one that is up-to-date and easy to attach. After using a leave-in conditioner, simply blow dry and plait your hair before pinning it on.

Quick picker-upper

Does your synthetic hair extension look old and jaded? Give it a new lease of life with this trick used all over the world.

Simply condition it with any fabric conditioner. After washing the extension with shampoo, pour a capful of fabric conditioner all over it and comb through with a wide-toothed comb, followed by a thorough rinse with cold water.

Shake away the excess water and allow it to dry naturally. You will be pleasantly surprised at how new and silky it becomes.
