There are some skin problems that are hard to treat. Ironically, most of them are caused by poor skin hygiene. The most common of these is a recurrent facial rash especially around the forehead and chin areas.

This rash is  caused by the presence of fungal elements on the skin surface but it is very easy to treat once identified.

To prevent this problem, ensure that you practice proper skin hygiene by:

1. Do not wash your face with the washcloth you use on your intimate areas.

2. Do not touch your face unnecessarily as this spreads germs.

3. Keep your powder and foundation application sponges clean.

4. Do not sleep with an unwashed face especially if you have accumulated sweat and grime during the day.

5. Change your pillowcase.

6. Wash hair frequently. Do keep weave or braids for more than three days.

Treatment: Visit a skin care specialist to verify the cause of the rash. Proper medication will then be administered.

Meanwhile the Safe Skin Sare Initiative will hold a Personal Care expo  at the Sarit Centre on September 6.  Readers are encouraged to attend to receive free skin checkups and consultations.
