What you need to know:

  • I believe Kenyans have not had a fulfilling festival of laughter ever since Indian comedian Raju Srivastav visited us some years ago.
  • According to the show organisers, Shakeel, popularly known as Teeli (match stick) will ignite fun and laughter.
  • The Pakistani comedian became famous after being cast in the Indian show Comedy Circus. He has also appeared in Salman Khan’s TV serial Dus Ka Dum; and various other Indian and Pakistani comic shows made him a house hold name in those countries.

They say laughter is the best medicine. This is perhaps why comedy is one form of entertainment that almost everybody loves.

But if you ask most comedians what is the most difficult part of the job, the answer would certainly be to make an audience laugh.

When I was younger, we would sit in circles in an open field and fun merchants known as bhands or muskhras would crack jokes on the audience as well as themselves.

And to relive those memories, the king of Pakistani comedy, Shakeel Siddiqui is going to be with us on August 9 at the the Kenyatta International Conference Centre.

Shakeel comes our way courtesy of Rani Jamal of Rani’s Production to curtain raise for the Javed Bashir Concert.
