Top US and local stars to produce feature movie

A deal has been sealed where top Hollywood film producers, actors and directors from will star in a local full-length feature movie. The deal was struck this week in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, between Mount Kenya University and XL Entertainment Squad, an American film company. PHOTO| ANTHONY NJAGI

  • Mount Kenya University and other partners, both in East Africa and USA, will partner to produce the Film.

  • XL Squad Entertainment will handle the technical side of shooting and editing of the film while Mount Kenya University will take care of the production crew.

  • During the Georgia tour, the university delegation also visited Georgia State University, CNN Headquarters, Tyler Perry Studios, artiste Akon’s recording studios, Georgia Film Institute at Southern Crescent, and Xl Squad Entertainment Office.

A deal has been sealed where top Hollywood film producers, actors and directors from will star in a local full-length feature movie. The deal was struck this week in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, between Mount Kenya University and XL Entertainment Squad, an American film company.

The film, to be produced by Mount Kenya University’s Institute of Film, Creative and Performing Arts, is titled The Last Result and is scripted by Yves Tchouta. Production will begin with members of the public voting for local actors to star in the movie.

The public will have a chance to choose their favourite stars for the movie, after which the shooting will begin.

The Atlanta deal was started in February when the Xl Squad CEO visited Kenya and was received by the Mount Kenya University chairman, Dr Simon Gicharu, and Vice Chancellor Stanley Waudo.

 Mount Kenya University and other partners, both in East Africa and USA, will partner to produce the Film.

TO NURTURE THE INDUSTRY

XL Squad Entertainment will handle the technical side of shooting and editing of the film while Mount Kenya University will take care of the production crew.

During the Georgia tour, the university delegation also visited Georgia State University, CNN Headquarters, Tyler Perry Studios, artiste Akon’s recording studios, Georgia Film Institute at Southern Crescent, and Xl Squad Entertainment Office.

Georgia State University’s Dr Laura Thomson, Dr Oliver Green and David Cheshier also presented papers to the guest.

The university intends to develop an Institute of Film to nurture the industry. Films will be produced by both local and international professionals.

Voting starts on June and ends in July while shooting of the film will take place from August 15.
