BOOK REVIEW: Anne of Green Gables

The Complete Anne of Green Gables (Boxed Set) by L. M. Montgomery. PAPERBACK | BARNES & NOBLE®

What you need to know:

  • For those of you who haven’t watched it yet, I suggest that you read the book before you do.
  • The universe she created for a young, imaginative girl looking for a family to love her trapped me in its magic and is yet to let go.

I reviewed the surprisingly captivating series, Anne with an E, on this page a while back. For those of you who haven’t watched it yet, I suggest that you read the book before you do.

If you have already watched the series, read the book, but be prepared to get upset at how many things they missed on the show. L. M. Montgomery remains one of my favourite authors from my childhood.

The universe she created for a young, imaginative girl looking for a family to love her trapped me in its magic and is yet to let go. Anne is an orphan who is adopted by a brother and sister who need help on their farm as they are getting old.

Though they had expected a boy, they decide to keep her.

The series of books, which follow Anne and her descendants, goes to show that you don’t always get what you want, but sometimes, you get what you need.

The books really are entrancing and so beautifully written, I want to re-read them.
