BOOK REVIEW: Night Dancer by Chika Unigwe

Thi sis hands down one of my favourites this year. Chika Unigwe’s book is an interestingly woven story about what happens after your mother dies. Mma, who never loved her mother, starts to look for answers, directed by her mother, after she is gone. PHOTO| FILE| NATION MEDIA GROUP

What you need to know:

  • What I loved about this book was the way the story was told, obviously. A difficult mother-daughter relationship is nothing particularly new, but the way Unigwe handles it is captivating.
  • The beginning was slow, but by the time I got halfway, I was gobbling up the pages like candy.

The answers shake the core of her being and she comes to terms with the hatred that she has lived with for all these years, and the real reasons behind it.

Now I am looking for her earlier book, On Black Sister’s Street. Find this page turner at the Magunga Bookstore and Bookstop.
