BOOK REVIEW: On Black Sisters’ Street by Chika Unigwe

On Black Sisters’ Street gives us a visual into the lives of sex workers, something else that is also very close to my heart, and fascinates me – you have to admit, sex workers make for a lot of interesting, sometimes heart-warming, sometimes horrific tales. PHOTO| FILE| NATION MEDIA GROUP

I read Night Dancer before I read this one, and I am not sure which one I like better. While Night Dancer is about one of my favourite themes, death, On Black Sisters’ Street gives us a visual into the lives of sex workers, something else that is also very close to my heart, and fascinates me – you have to admit, sex workers make for a lot of interesting, sometimes heart-warming, sometimes horrific tales. This book, however, is definitely in my top 10 books for the year. It explores the lives of four women living in Belgium, their lives and aspirations, the stories of their loves before they got there – and the murder that unites them all.
