I have always been a Roald Dahl fan, ever since I found out who he was and what he does, and does so beautifully. Which is why, when Hollywood decided to once more pay attention to him, I became quite nervous.

Hollywood has made Dahl before – Matilda, which, in my opinion, was a whopping success, and James and the Giant Peach, also very good. But that was old Hollywood. This adaptation news made me fearful, and after I watched it, I could see that it was not completely without cause.

The BFG is a movie about a little girl named Sophie who meets a giant – a Big Friendly Giant, who does not eat humans, unlike his other giant ‘friends’. He prefers to capture dreams and blow them into children’s homes, which is how he meets Sophie. The problem begins, though, when the other giants plan to eat all the little children of the world. Sophie and the BFG must stop it.

Please do not go in with expectations of what the book was or what the movie will be. It is showing at Century Cinemax and Planet Media Cinemas.
