What you need to know:

  • The Nest Collective tries to bring forward into the Kenyan art space new forms and ideas and thinking behind creativity, as you can see from their earlier works, Story of Our Lives, their first book, and Tuko Macho, their hit YouTube series.

Hopefully, you are familiar with the work of The Nest Collective – if not, a brief summary is that this is not the first book they have produced, nor their first creative masterpiece. The Nest Collective tries to bring forward into the Kenyan art space new forms and ideas and thinking behind creativity, as you can see from their earlier works, Story of Our Lives, their first book, and Tuko Macho, their hit YouTube series. And now, they bring us Not African Enough, a challenging collection that visually questions what it means to be African – as many are told, in a derogatory fashion, that they and their works are not African enough. This collection of words and images from emerging Kenyan designers is ‘an attempt to dismantle...this heavy, super concept – ‘African’ -; this assembly of words, images, sounds, ideas, weaknesses, histories and failings associated with the entire continent.’

Sounds intriguing, right?
